NeuroCulture Watch

World Builder from Bruce Branit on Vimeo.

The neurosciences have vast cultural cache right now. Bruce Branit's short film captures just one way the neurosciences increasingly blur the boundaries between "the Real" and fantasy. The problem with such cultural expressions is that they also exaggerate the sense of possibility.

Fascinating stuff. Here at last is a treatment of this desperately important subject that seems to come from a real expert in the field.

    So tell me--
I am skeptical of the increasing tendency to "neurologize" everything, as if prefixing "neuro" to anything takes trash out of the realm of pop science-- Before you know it, we're going to have dissertations on "The Neuroeconomics of Marxist Structuralism" or "Neuroconsumerism and Columbus' Encounters with New World Native Americans." And then we'll have universities develop a "Meta-Neuro Studies" curriculum.

What are you doing to combat and protect your developing field from the kind of culturalization that has proved so harmful and splintering to psychology?
